The Boston Aztecs are seeking college students from a sports management, business management or communications program for our annual intern program. The purpose of this program is to provide young men and women the opportunity to be involved with the operations and marketing of the Women’s Premier Soccer League’s (WPSL) Boston Aztec teams. The WPSL is one of the top women’s soccer leagues in the world boasting players that play internationally for their national teams, past experience in the WUSA and top division I athletes. WPSL now serves as one of the feeder leagues into the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) league. The Boston Aztecs are the official minor league team to the Boston Breakers of the WPS. The franchise also fields an entirely college based team, Aztec U23. This team is comprised of top college players from New England.
Interns will be tasked with the operations of both teams to include travel arrangements, home game operations, marketing, game promotion and media communication. Students will be given visible and measurable responsibility as part of the Aztec operations team.
The operations team is responsible for the following:
• Manage the promotion of home matches to increase attendance
• Liaison with visiting team, referees and special event participants on game day
• Coordinate field operations during game day
• Assist in player registration and player clearance with US Soccer
• Coordinate all game related correspondence between opponent and Boston Aztec
• Complete the checklist of travel requirements for each road trip
• Assist in player management
• Market and promote off site promotional events
• Track sponsorship agreements to assure all terms are being met
• Write pre and post match press releases for distribution to media outlets
Ideal candidates would exhibit an ability to work independently, problem solve, think critically and communicate professionally. There is not a graduation year requirement; however, maturity and professionalism will be a priority in the selection process. Prospective interns should be available for the duration of the season and possess their own transportation.
The season runs from the second week in April to the end of July. An ideal candidate would be able to start at the beginning of April. There are a total of 22 games and lots of opportunity to manage all aspects of these events. Home games will take place at Harvard Stadium as part of a Boston Breakers double header and at a to-be-determined north of Boston stadium.
This position is an unpaid. We are looking for two candidates to work approximately 25-30 hours per week. Interns that take this opportunity will walk away with extremely valuable and strong resume experience.
Students interested in this opportunity should contact Boston Aztec General Manager, Brandon Nelson at brandonnelson@neaztec.com or 781.844.7209.
