CURRICULUM:   Important note; there is a shift in our focus from the fall to the spring.  We will devote more time to passing/receiving and juggling.   We will continue to encourage and develop confident 1v1 attacking, but the percentage of training devoted to 1v1 attacking will decrease, as we focus more attention on passing/receiving, RWTB’s (running without the ball), and juggling. Technique:  inside of foot push pass, receiving with lead foot, juggling.

Tactics:  small sided possession games:  3v1, 4v2, 6v3

- Developing soccer intelligence

-  3v3 to four endzones.

- 5 keys for indoor matches:

- use your moves

- play the way you face (including passing back to GK)

- give GK 3 options ( 2-wide, 1 central)

- turn away from pressure

- finishing (calm, cool, clean finishing)

Topic of the Week:  Parents role in team building!

As a parent of a 2 1/2 year old, I chuckle to myself and muse with my wife about Keegan’s future in sports.   I have the unique position of running a soccer activity program for 2-6 year olds, and see prowess demonstrated from a very young age.   Over 3 years, I have tracked the progress of players who I projected to be excellent soccer players, and to a child, they progress as expected.  In fact, there are several ToTs participants in the U-10 Academy and over half of the U-8 Academy is made up of former ToTs.  As a coach, I am tracking groups of U-5s who I believe will become excellent players, in hopes they will one day play for New England Aztec.  I also admit I look at 2 and 3 year olds who one day may be teammates with my son.  My wife and I share this joke, but she knows I am only half-joking when I talk about it.

As parents, we all want the best for our kids.   We also know that winning is better than losing.   As parents, you can play an important role in building the team your son/daughter plays for.   Since the advent of club soccer in Massachusetts, many teams have been shaped by the work of parents recruiting players to play with their son/daughter, often to great affect.  It sometimes only takes 1 or 2 players to complement the talent of a group and bring them up a level.

If you believe in our organization and want to help strengthen your son/daughter’s team, I encourage you to keep your eye out for talent this winter/spring.  Parents always like to hear how good their son/daughter is.  Parents are also open to hearing about other possibilities from reasonable parents.
