The Boston Aztec Pro-Caliber Amateur Division is the pinnacle of our program. Our Adult Men’s and Women’s teams compete at some of the highest levels of adult soccer that there are in the United States.
The program offers our youth players an opportunity to watch what it takes to play soccer at the highest levels in the United States. Many of our adult players have been professionals, internationals, and collegiate and high school all-stars, and many also coach in our organization.
The program began with the creation of the Mass. Aztec indoor men's team in 2002 playing its games at Soccer ETC. The team won the 2002 Northeast Arena League Championship and the 2003 American Indoor League Championship before moving into the Premier Arena Soccer League beginning in 2004. That year, the men finished as PASL New England Runners Up. In 2005, the team won its first PASL New England Championship and went on to win the 2005 PASL National Championship. In 2006 and 2007, the now-renamed Boston Aztec won the PASL New England Championship and participated in the PASL Championships, eliminated on goal differential and penalty kicks, respectively. In 2008, the team opted out of the PASL, but we hope the indoor action will return before too long.
Boston Aztec started an outdoor program in 2005, when the women's program entered the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL). The women have featured former WUSA players Meotis Erickson, Rebekah Splaine, and Kerry Connors. After a 3-9-1 inaugural season in 2005, the women posted three straight winning seasons in 2006-08 for a combined record of 12-10-10. In 2009, the Boston Aztec women became the official reserve team affiliate of the Boston Breakers of WPS.
The Boston Aztec men's outdoor team entered the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) in 2007. Made up of former professional and current and former collegiate all-stars, the men finished their inaugural season at 3-4-2. In 2008, the men finished second in their division with a 6-3-1 record and were knocked out of the playoffs after an epic 3-2 OT loss on a 119th minute PK to Long Island.
Also in 2007, the Boston Aztec reserve teams were created, made up of elite players from the Aztec premier youth teams as well as some local college players. The teams provide these players with high-level competition in the summer and supplement the rosters of the senior Boston Aztec teams. The men's reserves play in the EMMSA, the women in the EMWSA.
